Mineral oil, also known as liquid petroleum, is a bi-product of petroleum distillation to produce gasoline and other substances derived from crude oil. Because mineral oil is not derived from a living source, it does not nourish skin the way plant-derived oils do. And because mineral oil’s composition is so dissimilar to skin’s natural composition, it leaves skin feeling greasy and suffocated.
