Scents of Knowing (Jack Chaitman) and the Art of Extraction by means of Jojoba Oil


15 years ago Primavera? started to find a possibility to extract Flower Oils without hexane. For this purpose Primavera? revived the old technique of Enfleurage and applied it for two years in an own cultivation project in South India. Unfortunately the result of this hard extraction of flower oils was not satisfying, because of the coexisting of a rancid scent of fat besides the scent of the flower. At that time this light animalic character of the flower oils was desired. But this special scent is no longer appropriate for the requirements of today’s noses. Therefore we are very glad, that we met Jack Chaitman and Scents of Knowing, who showed us a world-wide unique extraction process by means of Jojoba Oil. With that extraction process highest-class flower oil extracts can be extracted without hexane.

In the extraction process the freshly reaped flowers are immersed into warm Jojoba Oil. There are two influencing factors which are crucial for the quality of the finally emerging flower oil extract:

The temperature of the Jojoba Oil.
The amount of flowers, which is immersed in the Jojoba Oil.

The fresh flowers remain in the heated Jojoba Oil over a longer period. Therein they are able to rest or sometimes they are stirred up. Afterwards the flowers are filtered out and will be replaced by new freshly reaped flowers. This process will be repeated as long as the Jojoba Oil achieves the saturation point, that means the Oil is not able to adopt further scents and substances of content respectively the profile of the scent does not experience fundamental changes any longer. During this peculiar gentle extraction process the flowers dispense their rich essential oils and pass on their incomparable scent to the Jojoba Oil.

Please notice, that the flower oil extracts do not contain waxes or pigments of the flowers, but only the pure active components from nature. As a consequence the scent of this Jojoba Oil extract is 3-4 times stronger in its intensity than the Absolues of comparable essential flower oils.

These valuable and exquisite flower oil extracts, which are extracted by Jojoba Oil, are part of the Primavera range of products from March 2008 on.
